» (x , 0) = x-axis

Let (x , 0) be (x1 , y1) and

(0 , y) be (x2 , y2)..

We know that,

 \mathrm{Distance = √(x_2 - x_1)² + (y_2 - y_1)²}  \\ \mathrm  =  \sqrt{ {(0 - x) }^{2}  +  {(y - 0)}^{2} }  \\  \mathrm  =  \sqrt{ {( - x)}^{2}  +  {(y)}^{2} }  \\  \mathrm =  \sqrt{ {x}^{2} +  {y}^{2}  }

The roots and the squares gets cancelled,,
