the magnification will be M=1 /(x+1)or in words: the magnification is the inverse of the distance of the object to it's focal point.(for a divergent lense in virtual space) in unit of focal lengths. If x is the distance to the surface, you have to add another one focal length to get the distance to the object related focal point.(substaract one convergent lenses and x usually being an absolute value.) then the inverse of that x+1 is the magnification.
