The distance between points A and B is 125 km and there are 8 traffic signals between points A and B if a car running at the speed of 50 km per hour reaches point B crossing all green signal in 2 hour 30 min but on other day due to heavy traffic it happen to stop as follows 1 st traffic signal...... 1 min 2nd traffic signal...... 2 min 3rd traffic signal..... 3 min up to 8th signal calculate the total time taken by the car

normal time: 2hr 30min

traffic signal =36min

total time=3hr 6 min

According to question, we write the total time of stooping at the signals in the form of series,

then 1, 2, 3, 4………..8.

a = 1, d = 2 – 1 = 1, n = 8

∴ Total time to be stopped at all signals.

Sn = n/2[2a+(n-1)d] ⇒ Sn= 8/2[2 × 1 + (8– 1)1]

⇒ Sn= 4[2 + 7] ⇒ St = 36

Hence, total time taken by car reaching from A to B is 2 h 30 min + 36min = 3 h 6 min

Hence, car will take 3 h 6 m to reach B.
