the distance between the parallel to sides of a trapezium which are in the ratio of 3:5 is 22 cm . if the area of the trapezium is 1100cm², find the parallel sides of the trapezium.​

area of trapezium = height * sum of parallel sides /2

therefore, 1100= 22*5x +3x/2

1100=22*8x/2

1100=22*4x

1100/22=4x

50=4x

50/4=x

12.5 = x

5x = 5*12.5 = 77.5

5x = 5*12.5 = 77.53x = 3*12.5 = 34.5

ratio of the parallel sides=3:5

so these sides are 3x, 5x

distance between the parallel sides=22cm

Area of the Trapezium =22/2(3x+5x)

=88x

but it is equal to 1100cm^2

88x=1100

x=1100/88

=100/8

=12.5

so parallel sides are

3x=3X12.5=37.5cm

5x=5X12.5=62.5cm
