Given :  The distance between the places H and Ois D units.

The average speed that gets a person from H to O in a stipulated time is S units.

He takes 20 minutes more time than usual if he travels at 60 km/h, and reaches 44 minutes early if he travels at 75 km h.

To Find : The sum of the numerical values of D and S

Solution:

Stipulated time = T hr

Average speed = S

D = ST

20 minutes more time than usual if he travels at 60 km/h

=> D/60  = T + 20/60

reaches 44 minutes early if he travels at 75 km h.

=> D/75  =T   - 44/60

=> D/60  - D/75  =  T + 20/60 - ( T - 44/60)

=> (75D - 60D)/(60 * 75)  =  64/60

=> 15D  / 75   =  64

=> D/5  = 64

=> D = 320

D/60  = T + 20/60

=> 320/60 = T + 20/60

=> T = 5

D = ST

=> 320  = S*5

=> S  = 64

D = 320

S = 64

D + S = 320  + 64 = 384
