Given data :-

  • The distance between two cities 600km.
  • Two car ride start simultaneously form the two cities and move towards each other.
  • The speed of one car rider is 14 km/hr more than that of the other.
  • The distance after 2 hour of their start is 17 km. { reamain }

Solution :-

Let, first car be A and second car be B

Let, speed of car B = x km/hr .....( 1 )

Hence, according to given

{The speed of one car rider is 14 km/hr more than that of the other.}

→ Speed of A = {x + 14} km/hr .....( 2 )

The distance after 2 hour of their start is 17 km. Hence

→ Total distance travel by A and B before 2 hour = {600 - 17 } km

→ Total distance travel by A and B before 2 hour = 583 km .....( 3 )

→ Total time taken by A and B to cover 583 km = 2 hour .....( 4 )

Now, we use formula of relative speed

→ Relative speed of A and B

= {Total speed}/{Total time}

[from ( 1 ), ( 2 ), ( 3 ) & ( 4 )]

→ x + x + 14 = 583/2

→ 2x + 14 = 583

→ 2x = 583 - 14

→ 2x = 569

→ x = 569/2

→ x = 284.5 km/hr

Hence, speed of B is 284.5 km/hr.

Put value of x in eq. ( 2 )

→ Speed of A = x + 14

→ Speed of A = 284.5 + 14

→ Speed of A = 298.5 km/hr

Hence, speed of A is 298.5 km/hr.

Hence, speed of A and B is 298.5 km/hr. and 284.5 km/hr respectively.
