Answer: If both trains start simultaneously at 6 am then both the trains will meet at 10 am and 320 kms away from the first city and 280 kms away from another city.

• Let the time at which they meet be T hours from 6am and the distance from the first city(say A) be x kms.

• So time taken to cover x kms by the first train from the city A will be, T=x km/80 kmph

• And again time taken by second train to cover (600-x) kms i,e to reach at the common point from another city is, T=(600-x)km/70kmph

or, x/80 = (600-x)/70

or, 70x = 48000-80x

or, 80x+70x=48000

or, 150x=48000

or, x=48000/150 kms

or, x=320 kms

Thus distance of common point from city A is 320kms

•Time taken to cover 320kms from city A by first train is,

T= 320km/80kmph

or, T= 4 hours.

Thus the answer is both trains meet at a point 320 kms from first city and at 10 am.
