Step-by-step explanation:

Given The distance between two ports is 750 km. Two ships star simultaneously from these ports towards each other. The speed of one ship is greater than the other ship by 30 km/hr. If the distance between two ships is 5 hours of their start is 80 km. Find the speed of each ship.

  • Let the speed of one ship be s1
  • So speed of another ship be s 2
  • According to question
  • S1 = s2 + 30
  • S1 – s2 = 30------------------1
  • Distance travelled by one ship = s1 x 5
  • Distance travelled by another ship = s2 x 5
  • So 5s1 + 5s2 + 80 = 750
  • 5s1 + 5s2 = 670 ---------------2
  • 5s1 – 5s2 = 150 (multiplying eqn1 by 5)
  • So 10s2 = 520
  • Or s2 = 52 km / hr
  • S1 = 30 + 52
  • Or s1 = 82 km / hr
