Answer:

170 km from Delhi the two trains meet and at 6 : 48 PM.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x represent How far from Delhi the two trains will meet.

Train from Amritsar starts 40 minutes early = 40/60 hour.

So,

Distance covered in 40/60 hour = 80 × 40/60 = 160/3 km

Distance left to cover = 450 - 160/3 = 1190/3 km

Now, To reach at meeting point both trains take equal time.

Thus using Speed Distance time formula, we have.

\frac{x}{60}=\frac{\frac{1190}{3}-x}{80}

\frac{x}{60}=\frac{1190-3x}{240}

4x=1190-3x

4x+3x=1190-3x

7x = 1190

x = 170

Time taken by train  from Delhi to cover 170 km = 170/60 = 2.8 hour = 2 hour 48 minutes.

Time when both train meet = 4 : 00 + 2 : 48 = 6 : 48 PM

Therefore,  170 km from Delhi the two trains meet and at 6 : 48 PM.
