Let us understand what average speed is.

Average speed of the body is defined as the total distance covered by the body divided by the time taken to cover this distance.

Suppose a body travels from one point to another point. Say from point A to point B. Suppose the body covers a total distance d and it takes time t to cover this distance. Then the average speed of the train is given as v =d/t …. (i).

In the question, it is given that the train covers a distance of 240km in a time interval of 4 hours. Hence, d = 240km and t = 4hours.

Substitute the values of d and t in equation (i).

v=240/4

 = 60kmh-1

Hence, the speed of the train is 60km/h.

❍ GIVEN

  • Distance =240
  • time taken = 4 hours

❍ To find

  • Speed of train

❍ Solution

formula used ⤵️

\text{speed} \:  =  \frac{D}{T}

  \frac{240}{4}  = 60

SO, SPEED OF TRAIN IS 60km/h
