The distance of a planet from sun is 40 times the
distance of earth. If the masses of earth and planet be
equal, then compare the gravitational forces of sun on
these two planets.​

                                 earth and the planet = m                                                                    

Distance of planet from the sun = 40R

Force of Sun on Earth, F₁ = GMm/R²

Force of Sun on Planet, F₂ = GMm/(40R)²

F₁ : F₂ = GMm/R² : GMm/1600R²

          = 1600

∴ Force of Sun on Earth is 1600 times that of Force of Sun on the Planet
