GIVEN :- A coordinate point ( -6 , -2)

TO FIND :- Its distance from y- axis

SOLUTION :-

Now Let the given coordinate be A(-6,-2)

And to find the distance between we should keep in mind that

  1. The point is on y-axis so x value is 0 here.
  2. The straight distance between both the point so y ordinate value must equal to the points given.

Hence let the point in y axis is B( 0 , -2)

* as -2 remain constant in such cases.

Now for calculating distance between point A and B we will be using the distance formula as follows :-

AB

AB =  \sqrt{( {x2 - x1})^{2} +  {(y2 - y1)}^{2}   }

x2 = 0

x1 = -6

y2 = - 2

y1 = -2

Now we can put values to get the answer,

AB =Sq.root of (0 - (-6))^2 + (-2 - (-2))^2

AB = Sq. root of 6^2 + 0^2

AB =    \sqrt{36} = 6

Hence AB = 6units (ANS)
