Distance of a given point from the y-axis is generally the x-coordinate

Distance of a given point from the x-axis is generally the y-coordinate

Also we know,

Distance of a point ( x1, y1) from a given line ax+by + c= 0 is given by:

(ax1 + by1 + c)/ (a^2 + b^2)^1/2

Here, equation of the given line( y-axis) is x= 0

So, Distance of the point (5,-7) from the given line is:

(1*5)/ √1 = 5 units.
