Let the point on the x axis be (x,0)

Obvoiusly the point will be (-3,0) which is the shortest distance from (-3,4)  to the x-axis.

Now we know that :

By Distance formula distance between A (x1,y1) and B(x2,y2) is:

\sqrt{(x2-x1)^2+(y2-y1)^2}

Given:

points are:

(-3,4)

(-3,0)

x1 , y1 = -3 , 4

x2 , y2 = -3 ,0

\implies \sqrt{(-3+3)^2+(0-4)^2}

\implies \sqrt{0^2+(-4)^2}

\implies \sqrt{16}

\implies \pm 4

Distance cannot be negative .

So d = 4 units

The distance of the point from the x axis is 4 units.

Hope it helps you
