the distribution of insulation on the earth's surface is unequal because the earth is bulging at the equator and flattened at the poles .so the euqator receives the direct rays of the sun whereas the poles receives the slanting rays.the directly rays of the sun heat heat the minimum possible area but the slanting rays heat a larger area as it spreads over a much greater area as compared to the vertical rays.in addition the slanting rays have to travel a larger area through the atmosphere as compared to the direct rays.the longer their path ,the larger is the heat lost by various processes like radiation ,absorption, scattering etc
