I wrote:

1. The doctor examined the patient and prescribed some medicine for him.

2. The doctor examined the patient prescribing him some medicine

3. The student passed the test and scored a high grade.

4. The student passed the test scoring a high grade

In these sentences, there are 2 verbs that happened at the same time. Would it be grammatically correct if we change the second verb and put in the (-ing) form as in the second sentence.

As you can see, The subject shares both verbs. Can we do this with verbs of this style?

Please advise.
