log(1−x) is defined if 1−x>0⇒x<1⇒xϵ(−∞,1).....(1)

x2−1 is defined if x2−1≥0⇒x2≥1

⇒x≥1 or x≤−1.....(2)

∴ Required domain is the instruction of (1) and (2)

i.e. (−∞,−1]
