It wishes if it could also hop like the kangaroo and get out of the pond to see the whole world. The duck tells his friend kangaroo that his life is very boring as he lives in a pond. He gets no chance to visit the world and experience the pleasure of roaming all around. He thus requests the kangaroo to take him on his back for a tour.

The kangaroo puts up a condition that the duck needs to sit steady at the end of his tail so that he can balance himself. The duck promises his friend, kangaroo that he will sit quiet and still and will utter nothing except ‘Quack’.

The duck says not only this, but he has also purchased a cloak to keep the cold out. He says besides all this, he shall also smoke a cigar every day so as to remain warm.

'The duck and the Kangaroo' is a poem in class 8th Honeydew book written by 'Edward Lear'.

The poem The Duck and The Kangaroo is a poem by Edward Lear. The English landscape painter more widely known as the writer of an original kind of nonsense verse and the popular limerick. In this poem the duck wants to jump around the world like a kangaroo. So he asks a kangaroo to take him on its back. She asks him to take her on a ride over the land and sea, to Dee and the Jelly Bo Lee.

The third stanza of the poem very vividly describes the justification given by the Kangaroo for not letting the Duck ride on him. He is polite in presenting his doubt to the duck. He doesn't act rude and shirk away the possibility of the duck riding him. He takes on a very formal tone to ask for the duck 's permission to speak boldly. He says that he has objection with the duck riding on him because the latter 's feet are wet and cold and would probably give him a roo-matiz.

To comfort the Kangaroo, the Duck decides to wear woollen socks and a cloak. She promises to smoke a cigar everyday. With no further objection the Kangaroo decides to set out on a ride with the duck instructing her to sit at the tip of his tail. Thus, they move ahead happily enjoying a pleasure trip in the moonlight.
