A site called Mehrgarh (now in Pakistan) provides important evidence of early agriculture in the Indian subcontinent. The settlement dates back to about 9000 BP (Before Present) "which presents the oldest evidence so far for the beginning of agriculture and domestication of animals in the Indus system.
