The solar system consists of the sun , the eight planets and their satellites ( moon ) , comets , meteoroids , meteors , meteorites and asteroids .

\bf\red{★The\:Sun:-} All the objects in the solar system orbit the Sun . The sun is a huge ball of gases . It mainly consist of hydrogen which gets converted into helium due to the continuous nuclear reaction taking place in the sun . This reaction also gives out an enormous amount of energy in the form of light . This makes sun the main source of heat and light for all the planets .

\bf\red{★Planets:-} All planets revolve around the sun in a definite path called orbit . The time taken by a planet to complete one revolution around the sun is known as it's period of revolution . A heavenly body which revolves around the planet is called the moon or a satellite .

Inner planets : Some planets are closer to the sun than the other planets these are called the inner planets . They are :

  • Mercury
  • venus
  • earth
  • mars

They don't have rings and are mostly made of rocks . They are very dense .

Outer planets : They are larger and much farther away from the sun as compared to the inner planets . are mostly made of gases , light and have rings around them .

  • Jupiter
  • Saturn
  • Uranus
  • Neptune

Dwarf planets : Very small planets . Till date the discovered Dwarf planets are :

  • Pluto
  • Ceres
  • Haumea
  • Makemake
  • Eris

\bf\red{★Earth:-} ( Prithvi )

The earth is the only planet in the solar system on which life is known to exist . The three things possible for sustenance of life on the earth are :

  • Right distance from the sun
  • Right temperature range and
  • Presence of water , a suitable atmosphere and a blanket of ozone which protects us from the harmful ultraviolet radiation .

From space , the earth appears blue-green due to the reflection of light from water and landmass on its surface . Earth has only one satalite : The moon . The earth rotates on its own axis which is tilted at an angle of 23.5° . This tilting always remains in the same direction and is responsible for Change in seasons .
