The earth is acted up on by gravitation of sun even though it does not fall into the Sun. Why?

The gravitation force of sun acts as a centripetal force due to which earth moves in a uniform circular motion around it.

this is because the distance between them is very large such that the force of gravitation could maintain eartgh in orbit only...
