The earth is round/spherical in shape, but appears to be flat. This is because, the earth is flat at its poles and bulges. The earth has a particular shape which is said to be spheroid.

Suppose a circle, if you look at a small part of it,it would appear to be like a straight line.
Consider a sphere, small portion of it would appear to be like a plane surface.
Same is the thing with earth. When you look around you can only look around 1/millionth part of earth's circumference. And that is too small. That is why it appears to be flat.
Hope it helps.
