Explanation:

"The earth provides enough to satisfy everyman's needs,

but not every man's greed".

This statement of Mahatma Gandhi, had an influence on the introduction of sustainable development as a global issue. Sustainable development is a term commonly defined as, “economic and social development that meets the needs of the current generation without undermining the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” As a result of environmental degradation, the world’s leaders need to adapt sustainable development policies in order to protect our environment. What is environmental degradation? Environmental degradation is defined as, “processes induced by human behavior and activities- sometimes combined with natural hazards- that damage the natural-resource base or adversely alter natural processes or ecosystems.” For example, land degradation, deforestation, and land, water and air pollution. All of these occur as a result of man’s needs. Once man knows he can get exactly what he needs, he wants more and more- (greed). In time, this leads to environmental degradation. This is a serious global issue that may never be fixed, as man is determined to always get what he wants, blind to how it may affect future generations.
