It is not necessary that earthquakes only occur in such places.. but after some explosions (like coal industry) the land gets shook by the vibrations and the very big rocks in the soil get vibrations and reflect them back to the surface..

The earthquakes take place near the site of the explosion, because -
• There are many cases where we observed an earthquake after some kind of artificial explosion activities for mining or construction related works.
• This happens because the shocks of the artificial explosions are strong enough to penetrate through the internal layers of the earth which causes imbalances in the internal layers of our planet. And mild earthquake takes place.
• In the same way,those shock waves can even disturb the tectonic plates to serious extent and this can also result in the significant earthquakes.
(Although the earthquake is not mandatory for every explosion,this happens in some of the cases.)
