Forests, trees, jungles whatever you call it, it is essential because it encourages stable climate, improves water life cycle and it provides shelter to various life forms from bugs to animals. It is crucial for a nation or a state to protect the nature coming under its geographical area. Since only 24% of forest area covered in green, it is insufficient for a better environment and atmosphere; so Telangana’s state ministers brought up a plan to increase the greenery from 24% to 33% for the sustainable healthy ecosystem.
Telangana Haritha Haram program was launched on 5th July 2015 with the plan to plant and nurture 230 crore saplings in 4 years so to reach the goal to cover the Telangana state in green, to achieve this it not only requires money but also the contribution of people living in the Telangana state is important. To bring the elements that are necessary for tree plantation Chief Minister Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao suggested that the funds can be taken to carry out the tasks or activities like forest protection, repairing destroyed forests. But to plant the desired number of 230 crore saplings money just won’t be enough, with media awareness and efforts by the Telangana government, people came to know about the importance of Haritha Haram and therefore the support and help from NGOs, common man and government working shoulder to shoulder together for the sake of mother nature can change the destiny of Telangana. It seems happening as Chief Minister Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao launched a two-week long campaign in 2016 by planting saplings in Gundrampalli near Chityal in Nalgonda district.
It is known that over 25 lakh saplings were planted by the government in the first phase to enhance the greenery. Government deserved appreciation and with this respectable move started the surge of companies, from celebrities to common man everyone joined forces in Telangana to provide a helping hand in the second phase of “Telangana Ku Haritha Haram”. With the donation of 21 crore from Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) the spark to fill rivers with waters, improve ecosystem and habitats, protect watershed areas, purify air, enrich the soil, regulate the water cycle these benefits of Haritha haram project scheme are enough to push the movement and to perceive the ultimate goal of “greenery with Haritha Haram”. Mission Kakatiya is one of such initiative started by the Government of Telangana to restore the water storages and lakes in the state. The name ‘Mission Kakatiya‘ is given in the remembrance and tribute to the Kakatiya rulers who developed a large number of the irrigation tanks.
