The East India company initially carried out their revenue administration in Bengal in 1793.

East India Company and Bengali landlords finalized ed revenues to be collected from land, with far-reaching consequences for both agriculture and productivity.

Revenue collection procedure was concluded in 1793 by the Company administration headed by Lord Cornwallis. It formulated one part of a larger body of legislation known as the Cornwallis Code.

The code of 1793 divided the Company's service personnel into three branches namely: revenue, judicial, and commercial.
