The effective depth of a singly reinforced rectangular beam is 400 mm. The section is over reinforced and the neutral axis is 180 mm below the top. If the maximum stress attained by concrete is 5 n / mm2 and the modular ratio is 18, then the stress developed in the steel will be

The stress developed in the steel will be  1200 Kg/cm^2

Explanation:

Given data:

Depth of rectangular beam = 400 mm

Natural axis = 180 mm

Maximum stress =  5 n / mm^2

Modular ratio = 18

Solution:

C ÷ t/m = Xu / d - Xu

=> 16 x 50 /12 9 30 - 12)

= 800 / 12 x 18

= 66.66 x 18

t = 1200 Kg/cm^2

Thus the  stress developed in the steel will be  1200 Kg/cm^2
