The efficiency of a Carnot's heat engine is 0.3. If on reducing the temperature by 50° C, the efficency increases to 0.4. Calculate the temp of source and sink.

∴η=Q1Q1−Q2

or η=1−Q1Q2

as Q1Q2=T1T2

∴η=1−T1T2....(i)

where, T2 is temperature of sink and T1 is the temperature of the sources.

Here, η=50%

T2=50∘C=273+50

=323 K

Putting these values in Eq. (i), we get
