Microscopy of Ascaris lumbricoides show that each egg in ascaris is surrounded by a protein coat with rippled surface due to which they are considered as mamillated eggs. Undeveloped eggs are passed in the stool. The outer surface is mamillated (rough, bumpy) and stained brown from bile. Usually the fertilized eggs have mamillated (rough, bumpy) outer surface while the Unfertilized eggs lack the mamillated layer.
