The ejection of the photoelectron from the silver metal in the photoelectric effect experiment can be stopped by appliying the voltage of 0.35 V when the radiation 256.7 nm is used. Calculate the work function for silver metal.

Hey folk...

here is ur answer:

energy. of photoelectron = hc / λ

h = 6.62 * 10^-34 Js
c = 3 * 10^8 m/s
λ = 256.7 * 10^-9

substituting above values , energy will come out to be 7.744 * 10^-19 J

K.E. = eV = 0.35 * 1.602 * 10^-19
        = 0.56 * 10^-19 J

Threshold energy  = work function
 
=> (7.747 - 0.56) * 10^-19

=> 7.184 * 10^-19

work fuction = ( 7.184 * 10^-19 ) / (1.602 * 10^-19)
                  = 4.48 eV
