Electrons orbit the nucleus of an atom at different ranges, called shells. Eachshell has a different energy level, increasing the further it is from thenucleus. Each energy level is given a number called the principal quantum number, n. The closest shell has a value of n=1.

Answer:

The electron shell k is nearest to the nucleus

Explanation:

  • The shell which is nearest to nucleus is K shell which is also known as 1 shell.
  • First shell is known as K shell second shell is known as L shell and third shell is known as M shell and so on.
  • Every shell consists of fixed number of electron
  • The first shell can hold upto two(2) electrons, the second shell can hold  upto 8 electrons(2+6) and third shell can hold upto 18 electrons(2+6+10).
