the element belongs to 16th group and 3rd period.
the valancy of the element is 2 bcoz it needs 2 electrons to complete it's nearest inert gas electronic configuration.

Hello buddy,
I think you want to say that element X has electronic configuration as 2,8,6.

● Answer -
Period => 3
Group => 16
Valency => -2

● Explanation -
- Atomic number of X, Z = 2 + 8 + 6 = 16
This suggests that the element X is nothing but sulphur (S).
- X has three shells each containing 2,8,6 electrons respectively. So it belongs to 3rd period.
- X has 6 electrons in outermost shell which indicates oxygen family (16th group).
- X can accept 2 electrons to complete its octet. Therefore, valency is -2.

Hope this helps you...
