Required Answer :-

We are given that electronic configuration of an atom is 2 , 8 , 7. Atomic number is equal to the number of electrons present in it only when the atom is neutral. Now , The atomic number of given atom becomes 2 + 8 + 7 = 17. So , The atomic number of given atom is 17. The element with atomic number 17 is chlorine (a non metal).Chlorine is an electronegative element . So , the nature of it's oxide is acidic.

How to identify nature of

oxides ?

\maltese If the central atom is more electronegative then the oxide will be more acidic. Similarly , If the central atom is less electronegative (electropositive) the oxide will be more basic.

\maltese Reaction between water and acidic oxide gives us a acid. Where as , the reaction between the basic oxide and water gives us a base.
