It belongs to the 3th period since it has 3 shells.

(b) It belongs to the 6th group since it has 6 valence electrons.

(c) It's valency is 2 since it has to gain 2 electrons in order to attain noble gas configuration.

as electronic configuration is 2,8,6 so group number is 16 because group number is equal to number of electrons in outermost shell but after 2 electrons we add 10 to the number of electrons.
period number is equal to 3 because period number is equal to total number of shells in an atom.

the valency will be 2 because it requires a large amount of energy to loose 6 electrons therefore it gains 2 electrons to complete its octet and becomes negatively charged.

hope it helps.
