The type of bond formed is ionic bond because both of the elements outer orbits get filled by exchange of electrons

X= atomic no. = 9 = potassium
Y= atomic no. =17 = chlorine

Ionic bond forms between potassium and chlorine. This is because potassium atom has just 1 electron in its outermost shell and chlorine has 7 electrons in it's outermost shell.
