Electronic configuration of,

  • X = 2, 4

∴ Valency = 4 + (can lose 4 e- to become stable.)

  • Y = 2, 8, 1

∴ Valency = 1 +

  • Z = 2, 8, 7

∴ Valency = 1 - (can gain 1 e- to become stable).

So, compound formed by X & Y = not possible

[Compounds only form by reaction of anions and cations.]

By X & Z = X4+ x Z- = XZ4 (not given in options)

By Y & Z = Y+ x Z- = YZ (b).

Therefore, the correct option is B.
