The elevation of a cloud is 60 degree above the horizon. A thunder clap was heard 8 secs after the accompanying lightning flash. If the speed of sound is 330 m/s, find the vertical height of the cloud from the ground

● Answer-
h = 2286 m

● Explaination-
# Given-
t = 8 s
v = 330 m/s
θ = 60°

# Solution-
In this situation, c(light) >>> v(sound) .
So we'll assume lightning is seen immediately.

Now, distance travelled by thuder-
d = vt
d = 330×8
d = 2640 m/s.

Vertical height can be calculated by-
sinθ = h/d
h = d.sinθ
h = 2640 × sin60
h = 2640 × 0.866
h = 2286 m

Vertical height of cloud from ground is 2286 m.
