That night they left the finest clothes and shoes which they had made for the elves on workbench At midnight, the elves appeared again. At first they seemed puzzled to find no shoes to stitch. They saw presents left for them and were filled with immense joy. They wore their tiny clothes and shoes and dance around the room. With their own wish they left the room, ran out of the door and across the Churchyard. The shoemaker was sad to see them go but could hardly complain. They left some magic chain behind te couple. This brought them luck for the rest of their lives.​
