Given : The energy used by the iron for 1 minute is 33 kJ, at a voltage of 220 volts.

To Find : What is the total power used in kilowatt? In Horsepower?

Solution

Energy = Power * Time

The energy used by the iron for 1 minute is 33 kJ,

33 kJ = 33000 joules

1 minute = 60 secs

1 Joule = 1 Watt. sec

Hence  Power * 60  = 33000

=> Power = 33000/60

=> Power = 550W

Power in kW = 550/1000  = 0.55 kW

1 horse power = 746 watt

Hence in horse power = 550/746  =    0.737 hP

Given:

The energy used by the iron for 1 minute is 33 kJ, at a voltage of 220 volts.

To find:

The power in :

  • kilowatt unit ?

  • Horsepower unit ?

Calculation:

Power is defined as the rate of doing work with respect to time.

 \rm \therefore \: P =  \dfrac{work}{time}

 \rm \implies \: P =  \dfrac{33 \:kJ }{1 \: min}

 \rm \implies \: P =  \dfrac{33000 \:J }{60 \: sec}

 \rm \implies \: P =  550 \: watt

 \rm \implies \: P =   \dfrac{550}{1000} \: kilowatt

 \boxed{ \rm \implies \: P =   0.55 \: kilowatt}

__________________________

 \rm1 \:  HP = 746 \:  watt

 \rm \implies \: 550 \: watt  =  \dfrac{1}{746}  \times 550

 \boxed{ \rm \implies \: 550 \: watt  =  0.737 \: HP }

Hope It Helps.
