The enthalpy of hydrogenation of benzene is –51.0 kcal/mol. If enthalpy of hydrogenation of 1,4-cyclohexadiene and cyclohexene is –58 kcal/mol and –29 kcal/mol respectively, then what is the magnitude of resonance energy of benzene in kcal/mol?

Answer:

Resonance energy calculated by using observed value minus calculated values,,, observed value is-51,,,but calculated value is 3×value of cyclo hexene,=3×-29=87(in cyclo hexene only 1double bond but in benzene 3double bond )and also observed that the calculated values is always greater than the observed value why because due to presence of resonance

Explanation: resonance energy=-51-(-3×-29)=36

I hope you understand well thank you
