yes there is no intercellular space in the layers of epidermal cells as they are the main cells in our body which allow us to excrete oil and sweat...of course everything crossing our body must cross epidermal tissue

Epidermal cells forms the mot outer layer made up of single continuous layered cells.
Epidermal cells are closely packed with each other and do not have any inter cellular spaces between them. However, for the exchange of gases, small mouth like opening s is present called stomata. These cells perform gaseous exchange between plant and environment. In dessert plants, epidermal layer has a thick waxy coating of cutin, to avoid water loss.
