Given: The equation of progressive wave is y = 0.01 sin (100t - x)

To find:  The wave speed?

Solution:

  • Now we have given the equation y = 0.01 sin (100t - x)
  • Now the standard form is

                    y (x,t) = A sin (wt - kx )

  • So comparing both the equations, we get:

                    k = 2π/0.3

  • Now comparing the wave equations, we get:

                    w = 2π/0.01

  • Now v = w/k so:

                    v = 2π/0.01 / 2π/0.3

                    v = 0.3 / 0.01

                    v = 30 m / s

Answer:

             So the wave speed id 30 m/s
