SOLUTION

TO CHOOSE THE CORRECT OPTION

The equation of straight line passing through the origin is

a) y = 2

b)x= y + 3

c) y = mx

d) ax + by + c = 0

EVALUATION

The general equation of any line is

 \sf{ax + by + c = 0 \:  \: ......(1)}

Since the line passes through the point (0,0)

 \sf{a.0 + b.0 + c = 0}

 \implies \sf{ \sf{ c = 0}}

So the Equation (1) becomes

 \sf{ax + by = 0}

Which can be rewritten as below

 \sf{ by =  - ax}

  \displaystyle \sf{  \implies \: y =  -  \frac{a}{b} x}

  \displaystyle \sf{  \implies \: y =  m x} \:  \:  \: where \:  \: m =  - \frac{a}{b}

Hence the correct option is

 \sf{(c) \:  \:  \: y = mx}
