answer : option (4) 2Asinθ/2

The equation of two progressive waves is given by y1 = Asin(kx - ωt) and y2 = Asin(kx - ωt + θ)

then we have to find amplitude of medium particle.

using formula, A_r= √{A1² + A2² + 2A1.A2cosΦ}

where Φ is phase difference.

here, A1 = A , A2 = A and Φ = θ

so, A_r = √{A² + A² + 2A.Acosθ}

= √{2A² + 2A²cosθ}

= A√{2 + 2cosθ}

= A√{2(1 + cosθ)}

[ using formula, 1 + cos2x = 2sin²x ]

= A√{2(2sin²θ/2)}

= A√{4sin²θ/2}

= 2Asinθ/2

hence option (4) is correct choice.
