The equilibrium constant at 298 k for reaction, a+bc+d is 100. If the initial concentration of all the four species were 1 m each, then equilibrium concentration method ?

Solution :

A+B⇌C+D

1−x1−x1+x1+x

Kc=[C][D][A][B]

=(1+x)2(1−x)2

=100

=> 1+x1−x=10

=> 1+x=10−10x

=> 11x=9

x=911

[D]=1+x=1+911

=1.818M

The value by equilibrium constant method will be 1.81 M

Equilibrium constant = 100 (Given)

A + B = C + D

Since there are four terms, therefore, the values will be -

1 1 1 1 and 1-x 1-x 1+x 1+x  

Ke = |C||D|/|A||B|

= ( 1+x)²/ ( 1-x)² = 100

= 1+x/1-x = 10

= 1+x = 10 -10x

= 11x = 9

= 9/11

Now, |D| = 1+x

= 1 + 9/11

= 20/11

= 1.81 M
