Given :

Five identical resistors are connected as shown in the figure.

To Find :

Equivalent resistance b/w P and Q.

Solution :

Remember following formulae in order to solve such kind of circuit problems.

❇ Equivalent of series :

  • R = R₁ + R₂ + ... + Rₙ

❇ Equivalent of parallel :

  • 1/R = 1/R₁ + 1/R₂ + ... + 1/Rₙ

Now let's solve it step by step :)

STEP - I :

  • In right part, two resistors of 2Ω and 2Ω respectively are connected in parallel.

⇒ 1/R₁ = 1/2 + 1/2

⇒ 1/R₁ = 2/2

⇒ R₁ = 1Ω

STEP - II :

  • After solving first part, R₁ and a resistor of 1Ω come in series.

➠ R₂ = 1 + 1

➠ R₂ = 2Ω

STEP - III :

  • Finally after solving second part, R₂ and a resistor of 2Ω come in parallel.

Therefore net equivalent resistance of the circuit will be

➛ 1/R = 1/2 + 1/2

➛ 1/R = 2/2

R = 1Ω
