The equivalent resistance of a resistor in parallel is always less than the lowest of the component resistor (option-b).

  • The equivalent resistance of the resistors in a parallel arrangement is-

        1/ R = 1/ r₁ + 1/ r₂+ 1/ r3+ ..........1 / rₙ

  • here, R is the equivalent resistance
  • r₁, r₂, and r₃ are the resistance of three resistors connected in parallel.
  • Let, r₁, r₂, and r₃ = r
  • ∴ 1/ R = 1/r + 1/r + 1/r

                  = 3 x 1/r

                  = 3 / r

           1/ R = 3 / r

        Or, R = r / 3

  • This means that the equivalent resistance R of the resistors in parallel is always less than the lowest of the component resistor i.e. r/3.
