Let the Formula of Metal chloride = MClx

Let y be the At wt of metal

y/x = 4.5

y + 35.5 x = 80

4.5 x + 35.5 x = 80

x=2

therefore y = 2 x 4.5 = 9

the metal with at.mass 9 is Be

the compound is BeCl2
