The escaping tendency of material from one state to another is called fugacity.
- Fugacity is a measure of the propensity of an ingredient of a liquid mixture to escape, or vaporize, from the mixture. The composition of the vapour form of the mixture, above the liquid, is not similar to that of the liquid mixture; it is abundant in the molecules of that ingredient that possesses a considerable tendency to escape from the liquid stage.
- The fugacity of an ingredient in a mixture is almost the pressure that it puts out in the vapour stage when in equilibrium with the liquid mixture.
