Sir Ralph cut the inchcape bell so that the sailors are distressed as sir ralph was jealous of the praise that the good abbot of abberbrothok got for his humane nature. But , due to the natural justice , after plundering and looting ships , when sir ralph returns with a lot of wealth , the sailors of his ship could not hear the inchcape bell and in the stormy weather , sir ralph's ship collided with the inchcape rock and they all died of shipwreck.
